Developing your unique talents to nurture curiosity

Hi kids, Dad’s here.

I was thinking about you both and how unique and special you are. This is something that every father will always say to his kids, I think, and it is generally true, that every kid is unique, but those special talents that you have are not something that you can sit on and leave them as they are. You need to nurture them, let them grow and guide them to blossom, like the flowers of our garden. And, like flowers, they need to be nurtured.

In my experience, the best way to do that is to develop a strong passion for reading, learning about stories and characters, their life and their examples. I was lucky enough to start consistently reading when I was young, about 6 or 7 years old, and I loved dreaming about travelling around the world. One of my favourite authors of that time was Emilio Salgari who wrote The Adventures of Sandokan, the Tiger of Malaysia – even if he never left Italy all his life – or Jules Verne. His Around the World in 80 Days, From the Earth to the Moon, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas were all present in my library and, even if don’t remember the story in great detail, they nurtured my curiosity and eagerness to explore the world and live my life in full.

This is my wish for you both – to develop a love for reading that fuels your curiosity and broadens your perspectives. Let it be the wind that propels your sails towards becoming citizens of the world. Remember what Alan Watts said: life is like a dance, not about the final pose, but the movement itself. It’s not just where you end up, but how you live, learn, and experience each moment along your journey.

Cherish these moments, kids. Let your talents and dreams guide you, and never stop exploring the wonders of the world – both in books and beyond
