Life can be interesting, and if you look at it this way, you will see that it is made of different phases.
Right now, you are still young, and Mum and Dad take care of almost everything for you. There are many things you don’t want to do, and we push you to do them, not to make your life harder, but because we want you to experience a wider picture of life.
Left to yourselves, you would naturally choose the easier path. The one that gives you something quickly. Something that gives you instant gratification. Today, for most people, that comes from a mobile phone. And this is one of the reasons why we are postponing giving you one.
I often say that life is a marathon, not a 100-metre sprint.
Instant gratification can be dangerous, because it creates habits built on constant, short bursts of reward. You feel good for a fraction of a second, and then it is gone. What comes easily rarely stays with you.
It is the journey towards something you truly want, over time, that makes you stronger. The process itself – working, struggling, improving – is what makes you feel accomplished. It gives you a sense of purpose. But for that, you have to fight.
You have to fight against distraction. Against companies that compete for your attention, your most valuable currency.
So don’t quit. Finish what you started. Stay strong. It is not easy, but it is worth it.
The real question is this: if instant gratification is always available, what is still worth the effort?
I can give you my answer.
But you have to find your own.
